Colin Farrell - More Posters & Photos »Colin Farrell's first starring role was in Deirdre Purcell's miniseries Falling for a Dancer. He subsequently starred in the BBC series Ballykissangel and in Tim Roth's directorial debut, The War Zone. He also had a small role in Thaddeus O'Sullivan's Dublin gangster movie Ordinary Decent Criminal, opposite Kevin Spacey.

Farrell recently wrapped filming A Home at the End of the World, based on the novel by Michael Cunningham (The Hours). His first U.S. film was Tigerland, directed by Joel Schumacher, and Farrell was next seen as Jesse James in American Outlaws.

Other film credits include the World War II drama Hart's War opposite Bruce Willis, co-starring with Tom Cruise in Steven Spielberg's hit film Minority Report, starring opposite Ben Affleck in Daredevil, as well as co-starring with Al Pacino in The Recruit and Samuel L. Jackson in S.W.A.T. In addition, Farrell reunited with Joel Schumacher as the star in the hit thriller Phone Booth, and had a cameo role in the director's Veronica Guerin. He can also be seen in the Irish film Intermission.

Following the completion of his role in Alexander, Farrell traveled to South Africa to star for writer-director Robert Towne in Ask the Dust, based on the classic novel by John Fante, and then segued to Virginia and English locations to portray Captain John Smith in filmmaker Terrence Malick's The New World, about early encounters between European and American Indian cultures.

    The New World

    Captain Smith is spared his mutinous hanging sentence after captain Newport's ship arrives in 1607 to found Jamestown, an English colony in Virginia. The initially friendly natives, who have no personal property concept, turn hostile after a 'theft' is 'punished' violently on the spot. During an armed exploration, Smith is captured, but spared when the chief's favorite daughter Pocahontas pleads for the stranger who soon becomes her lover and learns to love their naive 'savage' way of harmonious life. Ultimately he returns to the grim fort, which would starve hadn't she arranged for Indian generosity.

    The Way Back

    At the camp in Siberia, Janusz meets Mr Smith, an American; an actor named Khabarov; Valka, a hardened Russian criminal; Tomasz, who makes a living by sketching erotic drawings in exchange for food and clothes; Kazik, a Pole who suffers from night blindness; Voss, a Latvian priest; and Zoran, a Yugoslav accountant. Khabarov confides to Janusz that he has a plan for escaping. Khabarov's proposed route is south to Mongolia, passing Lake Baikal. Mr Smith tells Janusz that Khabarov is fantasising about his desire to escape in order to improve his own morale, and that, in his opinion, escape is impossible. Janusz maintains his resolve.
