The Longoria Affair

The Longoria Affair is a remarkable story about American politics (particularly timely during this election season) that also deftly illustrates the respective character of Johnson and Garcia, two very ambitious, very idealistic, and very stubborn men. Felix Longoria, for his part, may never know that his heroism on behalf of the United States didn't end in his death on a battlefield. On the contrary, that's only where it started.

Short storyline
The Longoria Affair tells three stories: the injustice of discrimination against a man who died serving his country, the tale of a town--Three Rivers, Texas--that was designed to be racist, and the history of the Mexican-American civil rights movement. All three are united in a documentary that reports an incident of which not many Americans are aware and informs the viewer of “another civil rights movement.” We tend to forget that all poor people were discriminated against in the days of poll taxes, because the emphasis is usually placed on African Americans.
